Kabul (BNA) June 1st coincide the World Child Day which was approved in 1949 in Paris in the meeting of Women International Democratic Union to commemorate and appreciate children.
The child international convention has been started with these words: “Child should grow in an atmosphere full of prosperity, love and understanding, “This convention has been set up based on four main principles and the world countries have accepted and signed it.
These principles include:
- No child should suffer of any discrimination.
- No child right of life and growth, and
- In all decision makings on child, their interests must be a priority.
- The child right on free expression of his/her opinions and viewpoints in all related issues.
- The child right of life and growth.
Afghanistan has the membership of child right convention.
According to this convention, any member government is obliged to undertake certain supportive, legal and lawful programs for children protection. Although Afghanistan has codified a lot of laws on children support and several children advocates organizations are involved to defend and improve the children rights, medical care, education, social welfare and prevention of every abuse but in fact the children situation is very critical in Afghanistan and the Afghan children have no special day. Poverty, illiteracy and low level of social awareness on children education have created countless challenges for children. Heavy works, abuse, use of children in armed conflicts and their casualties, children mortality as a result of predictable diseases, deprivation of children in insecure areas, premature marriages and when a family commits a heavy crime the family should marry their daughter with a male of the other family (baddadan) are among main challenges. Their childhood quickly passes and they put step into adolescence, juvenescence and agedness. The world that since childhood its foundation has been laid curved by back wooded traditional society and improper culture would absolutely have not good future. Our children actually don’t know if there is a day in the calendar in their name and what are their rights and privileges.
Although, the situation of children must not be assess separately from the general situation in the country. There are a lot of bodies who claim to be advocate of child right who have received huge funds from the world assistance and established luxurious offices but practically have not taken any step for improvement of children situation. Children are a vulnerable faction of society but at least measures have not been adopted for them. Children have the rights of shelter, living in a peaceful atmosphere, growing under the shadow of mother and father affection, suitable nutrition, entertainment, medical care, moral and physical safety right of education. White haring access to these and other rights looks like a dream to Afghan children.
