Kabul (BNA) The Afghan Women National Congress inaugurated here yesterday with the participating of a number of women’s right activists, including publication deputy minister of MoIC, Sayeda Mojgan Mostafavi, former minister of Information and Culture, Dr. Sayed Makhdoom Raheen, the member of the protection and stability council of Afghanistan, Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal and a number of civil society activists, aiming at bolstering women’s role in the society and defending their legal rights. Speaking at the event, Chairman Suraya Paikan briefed the audience on the goals and visions of the congress, saying that the movement was established to defend the right of Afghan women and to fight for their enhancing role in the ongoing socio-political situation of the country. The congress chairman went on as saying that the movement was not limited to only the founders, but depends to all Afghan nation, in particular to women who have suffered decades of pains and misfortunes. Later on, Dr. Sayed Makhdoom Raheen, former Minister of Information and Culture and the chairman of overall Kabul citizens’ council talked related to women’s role in the late centuries, adding that Afghan women have suffered much problems and there are still big challenges ahead of them, hoping that the congress in close coordination with women’s right activists work on solving the problems sans any discriminations. The member of Protection and Stability Council of Afghanistan, Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, spoke on women’s role from prospects of Islam, adding that the religion has special respect to women and violence as well as any fanaticism against women are contrary to Islamic principles. A number of the congress leading body as well as women’s right activists spoke related to women’s issues and expressed their support of congress for establishing of an environment free of any violence and boosting of women’s role in socio-political affairs of the country.
