Kabul (BNA) Amid huge traffic in the Kabul city, beggar girls who are apparently seen hungry and distracted try to get themselves closed to high-model vehicles’ drivers whom are expected to be high-ranking people or wealthy and ask them for money.
Some of these girls with distracted faces and tearful eyes, and some other with hands full of pens besides selling their materials try to also beg and ask the vehicles’ drivers and passengers for money. In some cases, a number of vulgar men, instead of helping these girls tease and insult them with bad words.
The main reason behind such a challenge is poverty as it not only in Kabul, even in big cities of the world has forced some girls to beg in the streets. The benefit of the begging girls on daily basis is related to their ages. The girls whose ages are between 4 up to 9 obtain less money than the girls of 14 up to 18. Shahla Farid, an activist of the women rights said, the main reason behind such a problem is social insecurity, and unfortunately, in Afghanistan a number of men enjoy to tease women and girls. Meanwhile, ministry of women affairs—a supporting organization of women, doesn’t have any specific plan to financially support the women and the only thing it can do is to recognize the beggar females and introduce them to ministry of labor and social affairs. Independent Human Rights Commission officials expressing concern on increase in number of beggar children, girls and women in the country said that a number of girls and women have to beg, but about 95 percent of them works for economy mafia and they are being used in wrong ways. But unfortunately, the government has not yet stepped up in this regard. This is while, a number of experts warn that if this problem is not solved, the country would face with great moral crisis.
