Afghan Women Are Now Well-Aware of Their Rights:  President Ghani

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in a message congratulated the occasion of 8th March, International Women’s Day, to all Afghan women, saying the day is being celebrated at the time that Afghan women’s voices have further been raised for their rights than before. 
“The Afghanistan Constitution prohibited discrimination between the citizens of the country and provided equal opopportunities for both women and men in their social life, where women have better utilized the opportunity for themselves,” the president said as quoted in the message, adding there are now increasing presence of women in universities, security forces’ ranks, judicial organs, embassies, economic and social institutions.
“Afghan women are now well-aware of their rights and they defend it is line with the Islamic teachings and the country’s constitution.  However, discrimination and injustice still remained the biggest challenge before them,” the president noted, saying the government was determined to act based on the constitution to provide women a safe and sound environment.  President Ghani in his message went on saying that it was not the time that Afghan women once again face discrimination by the enemies of development and once again lose their social rights of education and employment.
“The Afghan women who were affected mostly by the decades of war, are now having firm believe on the ongoing peace efforts.  It is hoped that the steps taken finally end to durable peace,” the president said.  President Ghani further said that peace would come at the time that no one lose their rights, including women whom form half of the society.  He said the national unity government would never halt any efforts lead to peace in the country.
