Kabul (BNA) The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) was founded in April 1934.
It traces its origins to the Naderia Orphanage, with the purpose of helping orphans and those in needs. In October 1951, the society adopted its constitution, which articulated democratic provisions for membership, elections at central, provincial and local branches, and managing board. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is one of the two main partners of the ARCS, establishing its delegation in Afghanistan in 1991, with only temporary evacuations during the most recent conflict. Although limited in terms of organizational capacity in recent years, the organization and activities of the ARCS covers territory throughout the country. Marking of ‘Red Crescent Week’ actually means to mark a day which has opened a new page to the history of humanitarian assistance and goodwill in the world. Red Crescent Society plays significant role in assisting the vulnerable people in the country. Afghanistan is a country where has been always involved in conflicts and violence and its citizens have been always facing many problems. For this reason, Afghans in insecure provinces and areas don’t access government-related services. Therefore, ARCS and IRCC have been always making efforts to help the destitute people throughout the country and solve their problems.
However, offering humanitarian assistance in some areas of the country is not without danger. In some cases, the terrorist groups try to capture the charity organizations’ staff and strive to prevent their activities somehow. Currently, a part of this charity organization in Afghanistan is being ensured through lottery tickets and humanitarian assistance of other international organizations such as International Red Cross Committee (IRCC) and United Nations. But, their assistances are not sufficient. The organization has been always asking the citizens, businessmen and investors of the country to help this charity foundation get strengthened and heal the great parts of the social pains. October 16 is coincided with ‘Red Crescent Week’. Considering the ongoing situation of the country, this foundation’s assistance to the needy people of Afghanistan is a must. Therefore, we hope the foundation does its best in offering assistances to the needy people of the country.
