Illiteracy, Addiction, Insecurity & Impunity All Reasons For Violence Against Women

Kabul (BNA) Violence against women is one of important social levers that forcibly put women under the hand of men as women do not fully enjoy human rights and principal freedoms. As Afghanistan has had key achievements in various sections of women rights as women education, health and participation of women in various civil and political activities during the past 16 years, but there are still cultural and social issues facing Afghan women in most of parts of the country and have caused violation of rights and freedoms of women. Violence is an unpleasant, physical and unphysical behavior against women. Examples of violence against women are as beating, raping, selling women as servants, insulting to women, obscenity, torturing, war and political violence against women and forcing women to prostitution and so on.
Physical effect of violence against can be easily seen, but psychological effect of violence against women is more than physical one. Those women experiencing somehow violence against themselves are suffering lack of confidence, depression, stress, personality disorder, sexual and psychological disorder and others. Increasing violence rate against women during the current year might show awareness of women over their rights as the number of women referring to legal institutions is increasing. Reasons of violence against women in the country are illiteracy, addiction, insecurity, the culture of impunity, corruption, lack of trust on judicial organs and unpleasant traditions in various parts of the country. Statistic has shown that 60 percent of violence against of women is because of illiteracy, while 25 percent is because of addiction. The most significant factor that a woman cannot fight violence against her is lack of sufficient support from her. Lack of capability for solution of issue, lack of self-confidence, fear from life situation, financial problems and others make woman bear violence against her. In such kind of circumstances, women cannot stand against violence instead they endure pains every day. How to prevent from violence against women? The first step to prevent from violence against women is to increase support from women facing violence. Judicial laws and courts should be reviewed. Women rights organizations should increase and expand their activities in connection with awareness of women of harms and violence against them.
These organizations should help violence victims raise their voices and seek help from others. Those women experiencing violence should be advised to visit psychological centers. Now it is recommended to all that let’s fight violence and say no to violence rather think only of fighting violence against women. We should all avoid aggression and prevent other from doing so.
