Kabul (BNA) Murad-Khani, where has been popularized as an ancient and traditional area among the Afghan people, is situated in the north of the Kabul River.
It was considered a trading place with the crowded people, has placed the certain shops with the leather-made handicrafts. While the Murad-Khani is remembered among the Afghan people, it reflects the historical and cultural values and memories concerning the industries such as ironsmith, carpentry and leather-made handicrafts in the Afghan nation’s minds and thoughts. It is obvious that the buckets and other leather objects are manufactured from the old car tires. Qambar Ali, a leather-maker’s master told The Kabul Times, the leather-making industry has been initiated more than 90 years ago. The ordinary people, who have gotten good experiences regarding the leather-making vocation, can obtain enough income from this simple handicraft in the routine works.
At the same time, Qambar Ali stated that I have learned this profession from my father and I have been involving in this occupation since 40 years. Likewise, a number of the pupils who were interested in this handicraft have been trained by me during the aforesaid period. Qambar Ali has further added that we purchase the old tires and manufacture the leather-making objects such as leader-made buckets, well-rope, mud bail, leather-made hammer and other required objects from them. When the people refer to buy the leather-made handicraft productions, they come to my shop with special interest and obtain them.
However, Qambar Ali has described that in the past years the leather-made shoes were manufactured by us. But fortunately, the Afghan farmers who have been engaging in the agricultural affairs used these leather-made productions in the city and provincial parts. Similarly, in the past years, the leather-made buckets have been applying to provide the water from the wells, because the water-pipes have not been accessible in some parts of the country. Meanwhile, Mohammad Fahim one of the leather-sewing labors, has emphasized I am twenty four years old, in addition I continue my education at the same time, I am interested to follow the leather-making handicraft, because it is my father’s occupation. He urged that the National Unity Government (NUG) should concentrate its serious attention to establish a leather-making factory where the unemployed youth who are living in an unsuitable condition can be recruited. So, this was a suggestion that was presented by Mohammad Fahim who is a leather-making labor. Karima Malikzada
