Kabul (BNA) The International Day to Eliminate Violence against Women with the initiative of the office advisory on women affairs to the First Vice-President was observed here yesterday, BNA reported.
In the ceremony attended among others by minister for counter-narcotics Mrs. Salamat Azimi, some lawmakers and women employees of the office for First Vice-President, the message of first vice president General Abdul Rashid Dostum was readout by Dr. Anayatullah Babir Farahmand. The Vice-President in his message once again expressed his support to women and girls of the country, hoping, “women should enjoy their rights along men in the country and violence against women should be ended.” In the message, the Vice-President noted that he personally interfered and stopped stoning a girl Asifa in Darzab district of Jauzjan district and thus protected her. Afghanistan can’t make progress without the participation of women in social and development activities, the vice president said in the message. Mrs. Salamat Azimi and lawmaker Fawzia Kofi also spoke at the ceremony and called for respecting women rights and ensuring justice in society.
