Govt. Committed to Active Participation of Women in All Affairs: Dr. Abdullah

Kabul (BNA) Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah attended and addressed a gathering commemoration the International Day of Ending Violence Against Women here the Ministry of Women’s Affairs yesterday, a statement said.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Abdullah called holding of such programs a bold step towards reducing and ending of violence against women in the country, adding Afghan government was committed to political, cultural, social and economic participation of women as well as their active representation in national events and peace process. “Continued war has been the biggest challenge. The latter has left negative impacts on all people, in particular on women in the country. Violence in any form not acceptable and we are committed to ending violence,” Dr. Abdullah said as quoted in the statement from his press office. The Chief Executive called poverty, illiteracy, and lack of awareness programs as key to increasing trend of violence against women, adding sustainable development was not possible without active participation of women. Meanwhile Minister of Women’s Affairs Delbar Nazari thanked national and international support for ending of violence against women in the country, adding much efforts needed to curb the issue. She also said the violence against women has been increased this year comparing to previous year, calling war, negligence in follow up of cases of violence against women and lack of their access to justice as key to increasing trend of violence in the country.
