Tuesday, August 14, 2018

Kabul (BNA) Second coordination meeting of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs with media on violence against women was recently held in Kabul.
Addressing the meeting, chairwoman of Information and Public Relations for the Ministry of Women’s Affairs Shakila Nazari said, media should raise awareness on women related issues and provide information to society on their activities.
Touching challenges and problems ahead of journalists and reporters on collection of information, Nazari said, on Nov 25, Afghanistan Independent Human Right Commission released data on violence against women while the Ministry of Women released a different data, emphasizing on coordination and establishment of good mechanism in the future. A publication policy on women by the MoWA would be a good step for improvement of women situation.
She added, people and government have a lot of expectations from MoWA regardless of its limited resources. “We cannot cover all social, political and cultural spheres. Every positive step by every organ is an indirect help and cooperation with MoWA that leave its impact on laws, polices and plans. Media should play their role in reflection of these programs.”
Talking to the meeting, cultural advisor of the MoWA Farooq Sawab said, journalists and reporters are members of the government’s 4th pillar. “We have today invited a number of journalists to establish coordination with MoWA.
The role of journalists and reporters is outstanding and they are forerunners of freedom, justice and torch bearers of social development.
This meeting would be a new experience based on which I hope our next meeting would be a stronger and bigger one,” he added.
Touching insufficient training programs in audiovisual media, the MoWA authorities said that these media should further focus on publication of educational programs.
